The Public Speaks Up on Oral Health Care: An ADA and Crest®/Oral B® Survey NEW!

The American Dental Association® in collaboration with Crest® and Oral-B® revealed findings from a national public opinion survey on oral health care. While Americans deem the smile the most important physical attribute, a surprising 37 percent of Americans don’t know that poor oral health has been associated with serious health conditions such as stroke, heart disease and diabetes. Learn more about the survey results, cavity prevention tips and some important reasons to see your dentist.

ADA 22nd New Dentist Conference
Get jazzed! Join your colleagues for the ADA 22nd New Dentist Conference: Jazzed in New Orleans. This year’s conference will be held June 26–28, 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s a great way to network with peers and learn from experts while supporting the city’s rebirth and enjoying the unique Cajun culture. Carriage rides are back, restaurants have re-opened, and that good old New Orleans jazz is in the air.

Meth Mouth Media Briefing
The American Dental Association joined federal legislators in announcing support for two bills aimed at preventing and treating “meth mouth,” a condition where teeth can become blackened, stained, rotting and crumbling from methamphetamine addiction. More than 12 million Americans have tried methamphetamine (also known as meth, crank, crystal and speed), which can be swallowed, injected, snorted or smoked, according to the 2003 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The majority of users range between 18 and 34 years of age.

Give Kids A Smile® (GKAS)
Give Kids A Smile® is a national initiative by the American Dental Association to focus attention on the epidemic of untreated oral disease among disadvantaged children. In 2008, more than 50,000 dental professionals and volunteers will provide free educational, preventive and restorative dental services to children from low income families at more than 2,000 locations across the country.

Water Fluoridation: Celebrating 60 Years of Tooth Decay Prevention
The American Dental Association endorses the fluoridation of community water supplies and the use of fluoride-containing products as safe and effective measures for preventing tooth decay. Water fluoridation is the controlled adjustment of the natural fluoride concentration in a public water supply up to the level recommended for preventing tooth decay. In 2005, the ADA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention commemorated the 60th anniversary of community water fluoridation.

Face of the Future: The New Oral Biology
