Overview

Are you writing a term paper, giving a speech or just curious about dental careers? We have a variety of information that can meet your needs.

Consider a paper or speech about dental history. Exactly what did ancient people do about a toothache? When did people start using toothpaste? You could do a presentation to your classmates on a topical subject such as oral piercing. How about an animated demonstration of how to brush and floss? Consider interviewing a dental professional in your town—take a look at our career resources for background information.

Check out the resources listed below to help you find interesting information on ADA.org that may also be supported with animations or short video segments. The Classroom Ideas & Resources topic in the Teachers area has some interesting hands-on demonstrations and presentation guidelines that you may find useful.

Good luck.

Annual National Groundhog Job Shadow Event!

Would you like a close-up look at dentistry? Job shadowing allows you to “shadow” a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal day on the job, providing an up-close look at how skills learned in school are put in action in the workplace. Job shadowing allows you to see what goes on from the other side of the chair! It is an excellent opportunity to find out more about dentistry, dental hygiene, dental assisting and dental laboratory technology. Information gained from the experience can help make more informed career decisions later in life.

The annual National Groundhog Job Shadow day begins February 2, 2006 and continues through the school year. The national Groundhog Job Shadow day Web site at www.jobshadow.org Link opens in separate window. Pop-up Blocker may need to be disabled. can provide you with additional information.

What can you gain from job shadowing?

  • To learn how much education is needed
  • To understand how earning and learning are connected
  • To see how technology is used on the job
  • To see how the knowledge learned in the classroom is used in the workplace

To find out how you might participate, contact your school guidance counselor.
